Beach Liner

This’ll be the last place I’m reviewing for Sweezy… 😉

This is one of those bloxxing arenas that is themed with police/gangsters. However, there are also prisoner’s and robbers…. I have no idea what is supposed to happen. It’s kind of confusing.

There are motorcycles, a boat, a bridge, and a lot of weapons apparently from another place. However, it’s a nice effect when combined. Not the best, but not bad either.

MARK BREAKDOWN

Scripting: 6/10. Not too much scripting. More would be better; regen, anti-lag script, etc. Perhaps a way to capture people or something like that… However, there is a lot of button-work to make life interesting XD. Also, there is a day+night script.
Tools: 6/10. The tools are kind of deadly… there is no way to defend yourself, either. However, there is no shortage of different tools to choose from. On the down side, the first 7 are numbered… no names to help you remember which one does what.
Building: 10/10. The building is fine.
General Enjoyment: 2/10. The place is laggy, there is a lack of purpose, etc. On the other hand, it’s a bloxxing area, so enjoy that 🙂 On the downside of that, you can kill people really easily, very quickly.
Originality: 2/10. It’s a variation on gangster places. This one has a bridge and a luxury boat.
Creativity: 5/10. Some creativity shown.
Ease of Use: 3/10. The motorcycles are difficult to use, and the bridge is difficult to traverse.
Easy to Learn: n/a.
Deals with Problems: 0/5: 1. Regens break on shoot. 2. You can lock yourself into the jail cells. 3. Team killing 4. lag, 5. You can destroy random rooms with guns. Problems I can see fixed/prevented: …none at the moment of this review.
Deals with Lag: 2/10. Nearly 8000 bricks, no anti-lag script. Less joints than perhaps usual, but still very laggy in places it needn’t be.
Bonus: +0.5 I’ve been informed this place had an anti-lag script after all. It may not have been used to full efficiency, but hey, the point was it was used :).
Bonus: +0.5 A lot of hard work should not go unnoticed.

Overall: 5.1/10. Not a wonderful place, for it needs new ideas and a bit of improvement, but still a nice one to be at for awhile.

Mini-Madness!

August 24, 2008 at 8:09 pm | Posted in Charts / Buisness News | 2 Comments

It may be old news, but it’s expanding fast. Ever heard of Minis? Let me explain:

Minis is a T-Shirt of a Character Image, where the Head is removed, and the body is placed in the top of the T-Shirt, around the middle, so that you get a big head with a character body. The minis gets fusioned with zipperipper’s Transperant Shirt/Pants to make it look real. Of course, the shirt and pants don’t work in game.

If you still don’t know what is a mini, I’ll simply show you an image:

Ok, now you know? Seems like theses minis are selling very well theses days. Maybe if you make one, you may make a bit more money. It’s Marketing Buisness Tips, mah boi!

RASA Ressurection?

August 21, 2008 at 12:41 pm | Posted in Mysterys | 3 Comments

HERE, where the world is quiet. 😀

RASA is the Robloxian Aeronautics and Space Administration. They discover everything that happends in Space. Well, they USED to. If you didn’t see their first launch, here is a video made by Cheddly:

Now, 5 days ago, JacobxxDuel realeased on his Youtube Account never-before seen pictures of their first launch.

All this is great, but what does it contribute to the resurrection of RASA? Well, the videos aren’t the only proof. I have 2 more things to say.

First of all, why would some admins/moderators change their uniform into the RASA uniform? Woulden’t THAT be hinting about it doing another launch soon? And second, the RASA account (it’s old their account), just updated the place 2 days ago. And why would they be friends with RASACam? He recently registered.

Finnaly, I have a little idea of what is RASACam:

RASACam, since RASA’s place is friends-only, could be the place where they will put a screen, (or something that shows the activity in RASA’s place). Could it be the linking of 2 different places in one? No one will know… for now.

Well, when we have a mystery, the number 1 thing to say is “Wait and see...”.

By the way, did you guys get the latest version of ROBLOX? They also did ALOT of updates on the site. I played in the test server a few hours before it closed. 😛

waffles714’s “tower of grapple” Place Review

tower of grapple

Alright, another place to review! On request by the creator of this intriguing place. It may not look like much, but this is one case where you can’t “judge a place by it’s screenshot/title” 😉

At first, I started playing and was dismayed. It was honestly boring, and the scripts appeared to be broken. Well, I was wrong. After inviting a friend, I encountered how amazing this place really was.

This is one of those simple places that are extremely fun. It isn’t complex, but a decent amount of work has been put into it. The only problem I can see is that the grappling gun can be frustrating to use sometimes… occasionally throwing you down those 10 levels of bricks you just carefully climbed 🙂

The point of the place is to simply race to hit the gold block, which then changes its location. However, it is not easy to locate the gold brick or reach it when you have. The hardest part, of course, is to do that before anyone else does 🙂 You get a point if you touch the gold brick. That’s it.

MARK BREAKDOWN

Scripting: 6/10. The brick changes its location, and there is a leaderboard. However, there does not seem to be any sort of “round”, ie. after 5-10 minutes the scores do not reset (with a winner declared). However, there is still room for improvement.
Tools: 4/5. A reset tool, or some sort of method incase you get stuck might be a good idea, but perhaps unnecessary. The grappling gun is the only tool there, and that is a good thing.
Building: 10/10. The building has been done extremely well. Like obstacle courses? This place is just right for you! Like puzzles! This place is just right for you! Like racing! Same thing! This place is a wonderful Roblox “mountain climbing” thriller.
General Enjoyment: 6/10. I am suspecting that there would be less fun when there are more people, easily getting to the target before you due to a chance of a head start. However, that is to no fault of waffles714. I still think this place is very enjoyable. Unfortunately, it will get dull for some fairly quickly. It is one of those “have fun for awhile” places.
Originality: 10/10. This is a classic example of something worth a 10/10 originality rating. Completely new idea (to my knowledge).
Creativity: 7/10. This place shows acceptable creativity. The building is shown to be very creative. However, there is always room for improvement 🙂
Ease of Use: 2/10. The grappling gun is very difficult to use. On the plus side, this gives an added challenge and increases the amount you have to think to get to your destination. This is not a mindless racing game!
Easy to Learn: n/a. There are few instructions, but it is not difficult to learn what is going on, especially once the place gets popular.
Deals with Problems: 5/5. I cannot see any major problems, however the place has been designed to try and avoid any that may come up.
Deals with Lag: n/a. Except for server-lag, this place has very little in it with only 176 bricks.
Bonus: 0.2 for puzzle challenge effect described in the Ease of Use.

Overall: 7.3/10. One of the higher marks I have awarded, and yet for such a tiny place! Once again, see my former posts for reasons on why that is. In short, it is because this place is original, creative, and works well for what it was designed for. Have fun with this place!

Back! And I’m posting now!

August 20, 2008 at 9:23 am | Posted in Roblox Direct News | 4 Comments

SonicBoy speaking, I am back. I took 16 days to discover what happened during the time I was in vacation.

So, I’m just telling you that I’m back, and starting to post more now. By the way, it seems like jediknightkrazy is back. Hooray!
Also huge thanks to chess123mate for his “Awesome” (probably the best place reviewer I have seen on ROBLOX so far.) reviews while I was gone. At least there was a few posts, so that you wolden’t be bored here.

Oh yes, I’m almost finished with the Job Application form. But no place reviewers this time, ok? We’re overloaded with place reviewers, so that’s enough.

weaselman50’s “►►ABR-Aircraft Battles of Robloxia◄◄Source Release” Place Review

►►ABR-Aircraft Battles of Robloxia◄◄Source Release

[I’ve edited this slightly since I originally posted it. About 20 minutes after, actually 🙂 ]

Also done on request by the maker, weaselman50. This is my 2nd review today, 4th in 2 days, and I’m not likely to review any more for awhile 🙂

This place is a classic aircraft carrier place, but with tons of improvements. It at one point was extremely popular, but for no reason in particular, was overrun by other places that I (and many others) keep rating as very poor. This place, however, is unlike those, for it was scripted by weaselman50. Actually, I contributed the radar, but weaselman50 edited it and expanded it to fit the place (and properly, I might add XD)

Now to the game itself. This place includes many features, variables, and stats, all in a place that has very little lag. Unfortunately, not all the planned features (see the place description) were implemented, however what is done is amazing. You start with 20 in money, and receive 10 more every time you successfully hit an opponent. There are the standard helicopter and plane models that you can choose from, properly colour-themed to the team. Unlike other aircraft places, there is a system that allows you to get into the plane/helicopter and prepare yourself while being protected by the carrier from outside attack. It is timed, so you can’t wait too long. However, there is still an invisible shield that protects you from incoming attacks until you actually launch the plane.

Once you get out, there are usually other players to compete with. However, even if you go alone, you still have things to do! There are bot planes that do a lot in this place. Not only do they allow those who are alone to have an activity, but it allows newcomers an easy target that is easier to get money from than the players that have upgraded in everything.

There are currently fog screens, preventing you from seeing across the entire map (a good thing). Unlike many other planes, you do not crash if you come into contact with non-anchored bricks, meaning you can even collide with other planes without blowing up. The missiles will damage your plane, but you have nothing to worry about unless those are upgraded missiles or your plane’s health is low. In the store, you can upgrade your health, attack, or even purchase other useful upgrades.

In addition, the aircraft carriers are custom built. There is also an island where the bot planes regenerate.

On the downside, there is little wrong with this place 😉

However, though there is little wrong with the place, that doesn’t mean it’s perfect. The fuel was never finished, meaning that you must garbage your plane for a new one if your fuel gets too low (but don’t worry, that does take a long time). Also, the gameplay is not perfect either, as though there are bot planes to try and help newcomers upgrade, those with maxed out weaponry can destroy your plane in only seconds if they choose you as their next target. Not all problems are fixed, either, but many were addressed as well.

MARK BREAKDOWN

Scripting: 10/10. I cannot think of how to improve the scripting. Sure, there are ways, but look at Roblox on a whole, what is better? Some of the scripts may have problems, but I’ll penalize that in Deals with Problems.
Tools: 8/10. The plane tool is wonderful, and there are even ways to protect yourself and attack others without using the planes. However, there could be more improvement.
Building: 8/10. This place has standard building. Sure there could be more decoration, but the island is an example of that. Also, note that the “standard planes and helicopters” don’t have all the bricks they normally do…
General Enjoyment: 9/10. Where can you have more fun than here? If you like planes, upgrading, etc, this is the place to be. There are, unfortunately, still problems to be fixed, but overall it is still fun.
Originality: n/a. As quoted by weaselman50 himself, the purpose of making this place was “to be a better example of the popular aircraft carrier place created by pixel penguin”. The purpose is to show everyone that there are better places. However, Robloxians are foolishly stuck on the old places.
Creativity: 9/10. What’s so creative about the place? The buildings, the scripts, the features, the variables, the work-arounds, and all the other work that was poured into this place. The island, the bot planes, etc.
Ease of Use: 8/10. The planes are easy enough to use if you know how.
Easy to Learn: n/a. Learn what?
Deals with Problems: 8/10. Most problems are addressed, but not all. Also, spawn-killing of planes is taken out with an invisible shield. The moment you move forward, you are unprotected.
Deals with Lag: 10/10. All the buildings have been reduced in brick count as much as possible, and by keeping bricks smooth and anchored very few joints were created. Finally, all messes are immediately deleted.

Overall: 7.8/10. That’s what I call an amazing place. Sure it’s not finished, but it’s still amazing. I do not believe that I have given out a 7.8 yet! If it was finished, now that would be something! I greatly encourage people to visit the place and enjoy the many creative and fulfilling aspects of the game. This place is an example of what places on Roblox SHOULD be. Unfortunately, take a look at the front page and see a page full of places that, mostly, should be thrown in the garbage (sorry if there’s a good place out there right now, please have me review it 😉 ). I might mention examples, except why bother giving them un-deserved attention? Go off to see weaselman50’s ABR place! He’s even been so nice as to make it uncopylocked so that you can learn from an expert scripter with good ideas.

eternalseph12345’s “Chain war *update* v.2.1*read discription*” Place Review

August 16, 2008 at 9:34 pm | Posted in News | Leave a comment

By: chess123mate

Link to Place

Alright, I’m going to try and review another place after this one, but I don’t know if I’ll have time…

This was done on request by the maker.

This is an original (to my knowledge) bloxxing arena. You’re on a base that is held up by several chains and you can teleport to the other team’s base and blow up their chains. Unfortunately, there are only 2 tools: paintball gun, and a rocket launcher. No defense mechanisms other than bloxxing the attackers.

MARK BREAKDOWN

Scripting: 3/5. Teleporter, leaderboard, and regen.. but you can regen whenever you like.
Tools: 5/10. There needs to be more tools.
Building: n/a. The building is so simple I’m not going to rate it.
General Enjoyment: 2/10. It’s too easy to hit your own chains when attacking enemies with a rocket launcher, it’s too difficult to defend your base, and the place is not designed for 12 players. The place is too small to accomodate that number.
Originality: 7/10. It sounds similar to other concepts, but is otherwise original.
Creativity: 0/10. I see absolutely no creativity here, other than in the originality of the place itself.
Ease of Use: n/a.
Easy to Learn: n/a.
Deals with Problems: n/a.
Deals with Lag: n/a. Nothing can be done about lag in this place without really good scripting skills (and in a good server, there may be no lag at all). I’m not penalizing eternalsteph for not inventing + scripting such a complicated physics script that might not even work 🙂

Overall: 3.8/10. It’s a simple place. It may help inspire you to do something of your own. The main thing about this place is that it’s different than other places.

World of Warcraft by henry1245 – REVIEW

August 16, 2008 at 3:44 pm | Posted in News | Leave a comment

I’m back from the dead! I’ve been working on a new place, so I’d appreciate it if you guys would have a look. (I won’t be posting the link, I’m not noobish enough to actually try to siphon visitors from this fansite to my place)

The game is relatively quick to load. When I got in, I noticed some lag, but it’s probably just my connection, so I won’t dock points.

The game has more weapons than can actually fit on your screen (one of which is labeled “shotgun”… in WoW? O_o)

There’s a nice little system where you can choose your allegiance. Of course, since I don’t actually play WoW, I picked one at random.

When I spawned at Ironforge, I saw some… helicopters? O_o I promptly hopped down from the ariel spawnpoint and had a look around.

So… what’s the big deal? Why has this place been on the front page for so long? I’ll tell you why:

    It had a catchy name.

That’s it. It’s a “Build to Survive”.

Knowing what it is (and feeling a bit cheated, I was expected something like Bloxscape…. which actually took some work), I proceeded to look for a single good thing about the place.

All the islands are totally separated. You’d have to build a bridge (which is a concept proven to fail. Once “ghost brick”, and you’re dead.) You also cannot actually GET to the medieval helicopters.

Faced with the prospect of not killing anyone, I decided to massacre my teammates with my medieval shotgun. After getting yelled at and called a noob a few times, I left.

I came away from this place with two lessons that I’ll pass on to you:

Once, if you want to make a popular place, give it a catchy name and make a preview shot that hides what the place really is.

Second lesson: Never, EVER, come to this place.

Final Score: 3/10

zoydude’s “Zoydude’s War-Zone” Place Review

August 15, 2008 at 2:58 pm | Posted in Place Reviews | Leave a comment

By: chess123mate

2nd review today! This one was done on request by zoydude.

This is a fairly simple bloxxing place. It is indeed a war zone, with some simplifications.

First of all, the buildings are reasonably well done, but there is a lot of repetition. Second of all, the leaderboard is fine. Thirdly, the weapons are limited, but can be fun because it takes skill not to get bloxxed (and a little chance with those crazy grenades).

MARK BREAKDOWN

Scripting: 7/10. This isn’t a scripted place, but the proper scripts (regen + leaderboard) are in place. Though more could be added, it isn’t needed.
Tools: 5/10. It’s a penalty that there aren’t more tools, but on the other hand, the small collection of explosives makes for a very interesting bloxxing arena.
Building: 7/10. There is, unfortunately, a lot of repetition. Otherwise it’s OK and does its job.
General Enjoyment: 6/10. This is difficult to say. Some people will find it less fun than others, but I think 6 is a reasonable number. The penalty is in the tool limitation, mostly. It would be better if the buildings weren’t almost exactly the same. On the other hand, the explosive weapon combo adds for the excitement of not knowing what is going to happen next. If you have enough people in a server, there is the added enjoyment of watching many buildings explode almost randomly.
Originality: 2/10. It is a nice twist on the standard bloxxing arenas. However, it’s still a war-zone, which is not original.
Creativity: 3/10. Yes and no… there are a couple creative aspects, but much of it is non-creative.
Ease of Use: n/a.
Easy to Learn: n/a.
Deals with Problems: 1/2. It has a regen. It doesn’t have anything else, but I don’t think it needs it, either.
Deals with Lag: 5/5. Lag has been minimized by regening every 10 minutes. With only 2000 bricks, the place works reasonably well.

Overall: 5.2/10. This place is interesting, but it could use a better variety of objects; it needs more tools, structures, and perhaps scripts; and it could use with more features to improve creativity. A slightly more original theme would help the place as well.

Altair7’s “▀ Modern Warfare” Place Review

August 15, 2008 at 1:57 pm | Posted in Place Reviews | 1 Comment

By: chess123mate

This place was popular last week, so I decided to review it. Now, prepare for a bad review. I know a lot of people seemed to like this place. I couldn’t disagree more with those individuals…

This game is supposed to be based on modern warfare. It’s not really modern; xLEGOx’s guns were more modern than these. You get to kill people and “increase your KOs”. I guess a lot of people want that. There are 4 classes you can choose from that each give you a slightly different variation in weapons.

These weapons kill almost instantly. It’s also difficult to see the missiles, some of which are non-existant. They only activate IF you are targeting a person. What type of “modern warfare” is this?

Other problems are there is no leaderboard points. I guess to hide the fact that you are likely dying more times than you think… makes people happy to think their KO count is increasing. Well, I’m sure it might be. I’m also sure that their WO count is increasing… anyway, there’s no leaderboard to tell you how fast either one is going. Also, for some queer reason, everyone’s name has been cleared. You can’t tell who anybody is unless you compare eachother’s shirts, because your character’s model name is “”. It’s nothing. That means the humanoid doesn’t display any text, which is really annoying. It even defeats the purpose of the kick script, because unless someone is doing something annoying in the chat, you have no way of knowing who just tked you.

MARK BREAKDOWN

Scripting: 3/10. Oh, the scripting… lots of scripting, but what does it do? Not much… just in the classes and clearing everyone’s name… to be better? First, take out the unknown name aspect. Then add interesting things in the place. Then improve the tools. Don’t forget the leaderboard! Even a standard one would do better than nothing at all!
Tools: 5/10. There are a lot of ways to kill people, many of them instant. However, not all of them were custom made. However, the penalty is because there are no bombs, there are no shields, there is no protective armour, there is no way to defend yourself except kill everyone in site before they see you. Modern warfare should include armour, shouldn’t it? Or in “modern day”, are there so many “people” that it’s economically beneficial to kill as many people as possible? Finally, you can spawn kill with the weapons.
Building: 5/10. There is little building. Fortunately, that reduces lag, but there is also very little in the place. It’s all anchored, preventing the buildings from getting any damage. On the other hand, it is properly themed. Kind of.
General Enjoyment: 2/10. Is there someone who tks? No problem, just ask them who they are so you can kick them out! That’s sure to work! Just ask, “Hey! You just tked me! Who are you? I want to kick you out of the game!”. Also, you don’t know who did blox you, you don’t know who you’re bloxxing, death is all to easy, and there’s nothing else to do. The only people who were having fun seemed to be those who wanted a high KO count.
Originality: 0/10. Original? Never.
Creativity: 2/10. Creative? No.
Ease of Use: 3/5. Most things are easy to do in this place, but you can’t climb stairs or ladders if you have a gun selected.
Easy to Learn: n/a.
Deals with Problems: 4/10. Many problems were attempted to be taken care of, but due to that wretched name-clear system, it doesn’t work.
Deals with Lag: 5/5. Lag is taken care of in this place.

Overall: 3.8/10. Yes it has the proper elements to a reasonable place, but it needs a ton of improvement.
